PET ADVICE

Bringing a puppy into your life can make such a heartwarming difference, yet there's a multitude of mature dogs in need of a home. Rescue centres have really grappled with space limitations over the years, even our own clinical staff have spent countless hours fostering pets to insure they get to their forever home.

Sadly, dogs end up in rescue centres for a variety of reasons, including health issues, the loss of their owners, financial constraints related to dog care, or behavioural challenges, among other factors. However, by seeking assistance from a rescue centre, you can identify the perfect dog based on factors such as breed, temperament, age, and size that align with your unique situation. You also have us. We can help you with old dog problems.

The question arises: Is adopting a dog a superior choice compared to purchasing a puppy? Whether you choose to acquire a puppy from a breeder or adopt one from a rescue, the pivotal first step remains finding a reputable source. There are plenty of shady people out there that breed within the country or import animals with hosts of issues. Registered Kennel Club or registered rescues are good places to start vetting who you adopt from.

A dog's character is of paramount importance, and it's worth noting that not all breeders and rescue organisations conduct thorough assessments of the dogs they offer. Therefore, the onus falls on you to engage in comprehensive research, as well as interacting with your potential new family member to see if you are friends.

Before embarking on the adoption journey, several crucial considerations come into play. It's essential to take the time to make a well-thought-out choice. While it might be tempting to embrace the first dog you encounter during a visit to a rescue centre, exercising prudence is imperative.

Assess your living circumstances, whether you reside in a house with a yard or an apartment. Take into account your daily absences from home and the presence of children. The dog is man’s best friend, more than anything the dog wants you more than anything else so the more time you can give the better. We normally suggest pet sitters to offer your dog a break if you're going to be out all day. This gives human contact and some exercise time. And of course you can just bring your dog to work if your job allows it. A thorough understanding of the dog's breed, traits, needs, and associated expenses before making a commitment will pave the way for a successful and fulfilling adoption when the right dog comes your way. You will want to bring that information to Mammal before signing up so we can best understand how we can help you if your pet has challenges.

Please consider the cost of owning a dog and the range of ongoing costs throughout it’s lifetime, including neutering, food, toys and accessories such as clothing, annual vaccinations, parasite medication, grooming, and more.

Our canine friends can enjoy a substantial lifespan, prompting consideration of where your potential life changes in the coming years will be, such as, relocation, family expansion, or career alterations. Patience is a must with rescued dogs as they may require far more time to acclimate and rebuild trust.

Puppies are like babies they do demand significant dedication and time, including house training, obedience training, and vigilant supervision, whereas adult dogs may represent a more practical choice. Either way if you put the time into your pet you will develop trust, love, and a bond for each other.

It's crucial to ensure that your living and other long term environments is secure by eliminating potential hazards before taking on a new puppy or dog, Their unwavering loyalty and affection make them man’s best friend. By dedicating time and puting in the work we hope this helps you both develop a life long relationship.

We acknowledge the significance of upholding our personal oral care routine, involving brushing our teeth twice daily. However, we must also consider the dental well-being of our pets. Regrettably, most dogs and cats will, at some point in their lives, confront dental problems. Consequently, as pet owners, it becomes our duty to proactively address these potential risks.

Neglecting the dental care of our pets can lead to issues like unpleasant breath, the accumulation of tartar and plaque, gum disease, and, in the worst case, infections and tooth loss and bone damage. It’s important that we safeguard our pets oral health.

Foremost, it is imperative to closely observe our furry companions. Is their dietary intake adequate? Do their gum tissues manifest a healthy pink, or do they exhibit signs of bleeding? Stay alert for indicators of irritability, attempts to paw at their mouths, or excessive drooling. Seeing any discomfort signs in your pet, it is advisable to seek guidance from a veterinarian who can recommend effective measures to restore your pet's oral well-being.

At Mammal Healthcare, we are dedicated to scheduling routine dental assessments for your cats and diligently monitoring any potential concerns. Our devoted team is deeply committed to educating pet owners on optimal strategies for dental care, ensuring that all pets can enjoy an elevated quality of life. Dental procedures that can be done at Mammal Healthcare are included in your tailored plan.

Keep in mind that prevention is best. so brushing your pet's teeth may appear daunting, but initiating this practice early on can be beneficial for both you and your pet in the long term. Mammal Healthcare can teach you and help you understand the right products to use and what’s best for your pet. Pet dental products are different then human ones, let us help you choose and use them correctly.

Initiate the process of teeth cleaning around the age of eight months, once your pet has completed teething. Acquaint your pet with the toothbrush and the sensation of having their mouth handled. After a few weeks, when your cat is comfortable with the toothbrush, gradually introduce the toothpaste. Gently brush at a 45-degree angle across the surface of their teeth, focused on the gumline.

Consistency is successful dental hygiene. Endeavour to select a daily time slot when both you and your pet are in a calm and relaxed state. If your pet experiences stress or attempts to escape, it is advisable to allow them to depart and return to the brushing later. Don’t wrestle with your pet, be patient and try again another time or even tomorrow. It takes time.
